Mining and Development in Peru with special reference to the Rio Blanco project Piura

   This document is a report made in 2007 after the independent organization Peru Support Group gave its assistance in the coordination of an independent delegation of scholars and journalists to observe the situation of mining conflicts in Peru.

   This report gives an extensive overview on the protracted conflict that the Rio Blanco project has created between the mining company Rio Blanco Copper (formerly Minera Majaz) and the local population of farmers in the province of Piura, Northern Peru. It also analyses the social and environmental impacts of mining projects and gives special attention to question of economical and social development in Peru.
